The Ritz Carlton Hotel, Bahrain

The American Society of Safety Engineers-Middle East Chapter (ASSE-MEC) held its Professional Development Symposium at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Bahrain. Over 120 chapter members and other safety professionals, senior executives and management from major oil, gas, petro-chemical and construction corporations together with government regulatory authority representatives from Saudi Arabia and Bahrain attended this event. The following topics were presented:
1. Stairwell Re-entry Systems for High-rise Buildings

The symposium was followed by the Installation Ceremony of
the chapter’s newly elected officers. Mr. Nassir Al-Jurashi (Saudi Aramco Loss Prevention Division Head) presented the 2008-2009 Nomination Committee Report and announced the names of the elected officers:

Then Mr. Ali Saflan (Saudi Aramco former Senior Vice President of Industrial Services) honored the Middle East Chapter by installing the newly elected officers and congratulated them. He also reminded the officers to fulfill their new responsibilities and achieve the ASSE objective which is to promote the advancement of the safety profession and foster the professional well-being and development of its members.
25th Anniversary CelebrationASSE-MEC Established in 1982
After the Installation Ceremony, the Middle East Chapter celebrated its 25th anniversary. Mr. Jitu Patel, one of the pioneer and founder members of the chapter, gave a speech on the history of the chapter and its achievements. From July 1st, 2008, the Middle East Chapter becomes one of the 13 chapters under ASSE Region II.
As part of the celebration, the chapter supporters-Bedah Al-Gahtani, Mohammad Mughamis, and Sulaiman Al-Fassam – the former executives of Saudi Aramco and Hameed Kassemthe Saudi Aramco Loss Prevention Manager-were recognized with tokens of appreciation for the chapter’s growth.
Finally, Mr. Hameed Kassem presented a token of appreciation to recognize the former ASSE-MEC Presidents for their dedication and leadership toward the chapter’s growth and success:
